Assoc. Prof. Gülçin YAHYA KAÇAR

Born in 1966, in Ankara, Turkey. Graduated from Çankaya High school in 1984 and in the

same year got accepted into the Music Education Department at Gazi University. Studied

flute for four years under the tutelage of Aycan Sancar, the group conductor for the

Presidential Symphony Orchestra and graduated to become a music educator.

Showed interest in Turkish Music and ud along with the European Music education. In 1986

met and became a student of Cinuçen Tanrıkorur, the ud virtuoso, composer and architect. She was the first student ever to complete Tanrıkorur’s ud method in such a short time as six

months and performed her first recital with Cinuçen Tanrıkorur.

In 1988, she joined the Selçuk University Music Education Department to teach ud and flute

instruments. Received her Master’s degree in 1993 with her study ‘‘The differences between the notes and their interpretation in Turkish instrumental music’’. In year

2000, she received her doctorate degree with her study ‘’ Ud Taksims of YorgoBacanos (instrumental improvisation) ’’. She worked with the prominent academics of the period,

such as Prof. Mutlu Torun and Prof. Dr. M. Cihat Can.

Appointed as a Teaching staff to the Music Education Department at Gazi University in 1997.

Acquired the title of Assistant Professor in 2002 and the Professor title in year 2004. Presently teaches ud, traditional instruments orchestra, masters and doctorate level lecture in the same department.

Intensified her academic studies in the direction of devising and utilizing methodical and

systematic approach to teaching ud. To this end, published the following three books; Ud Method (ud metodu), Ud Exercises (ud alıştırmaları), Yorgo Bacanos’s Ud Improvisations ( Yorgo Bacanos’un Ud Taksimleri ) .

Attended and participated in national and international festivals and activities. Received

invitations to radio and television programs. Performed recitals and gave lectures. Participated in Workshops. Represented Turkey outside of Turkey, such as , Morocco, Rabat; Bahreyn, Sweden, Syria, Damascus,. Gülçin YAHYA KAÇAR with a large repertoire performs works from a variety of composers from differentperiods in her recitals. She was the first ud artist to perform Mozart’s piano concerto along with a symphony orchestra. In addition, she is involved in composition to develop TurkishInstrumental Music. Received two separate awards for the Muhayyer Sünbüle Karabatak Peşrevi and Hisar Medhal works’ at a compozition contest organized by the Ministry of Culture in 2005. She has three published CDs; The one named World Music Collection ( Dünya Müzikleri Koleksiyonu) in 1990 in France, the one named Works of Cinuçen Tanrıkorur (Cinuçen Tanrıkorur Eserleri )in 2000 and the last one My Dreams (Hayallerim) in 2002.
